Leaders attempting to build pressure on the Congress high command, those dividing the party into factions for the lure of power, will face a major setback before 2027.
Chandigarh, January 23 (Yuvraj Singh Mann) – Following recent statements made by Punjab Congress leader and former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, a meeting was convened yesterday by the Congress high command. After the meeting, AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal made it clear that the Congress high command will not tolerate indiscipline or irresponsible statements that damage the party on open platforms.
However, according to high-level sources, during the meeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi issued even stronger and stricter directions to party leaders. He categorically stated that any leader attempting to create pressure on the party would not be tolerated under any circumstances. Sources reveal that Rahul Gandhi directly warned certain leaders—naming them explicitly—that those forming factions within the party with ambitions of securing chairs of power or high positions in a future government would gain nothing. He clearly indicated that if such actions continued, strict action could be taken against them even before the 2027 Assembly elections.
It is being reported that Rahul Gandhi is extremely upset with leaders who have already started projecting themselves as Chief Ministerial faces. According to sources, the high command had already received reports that a few leaders were operating dozens of social media accounts to promote themselves as Chief Ministerial candidates, attempting to build public momentum and exert pressure on the party leadership—an act that has deeply annoyed the high command.
Sources further stated that the high command has issued a direct message to such leaders that appointing a Chief Minister is the party’s prerogative. Only those leaders who work selflessly for the party and deliver results will be given respect and recognition. On the other hand, leaders indulging in such activities and making statements that weaken the party will gain nothing.
A senior leader present in the meeting told Ajit that Rahul Gandhi is also upset because, while he is fighting nationwide for the rights of Dalits and backward classes, statements like those made by Charanjit Singh Channi—alleging that the party gives preference only to leaders from upper castes—undermine that struggle. The leader added that even before the meeting formally began, Rahul Gandhi remarked, “We are fighting the central government across the country on various public issues without bowing to pressure. How can we then bow to pressure from leaders of our own party in a state?” He further stated, “Many have come and gone. We do not need those who weaken the party.”
It is said that despite these strict instructions, if any party leader violates the directives, the high command appears to be in a firm mood to take strong action in the coming days, so that indiscipline and factionalism within the party can be eliminated well before the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
